Reduce EMF exposure - Practical Strategies

How to Reduce Your EMF Exposure

Reducing EMF Exposure - A Must for Ongoing Health

After a serious, objective, and detailed analysis, I realized that it is virtually impossible to
achieve high levels of health in the 21st century unless you are addressing your EMF exposure
and giving your body what it needs to remediate the damage this exposure causes.1
Dr. Joseph Mercola

In no other time in human history have we been as exposed to EMFs as we currently are.  As demand for more and faster connectivity rises, this exposure is only going to increase over time. Scientific evidence is mounting on the harm that EMF exposure entails.  No longer can we bury our heads in the sand and pretend that our bodies are not being irradiated in the sea of EMFs that we swim in daily.

In this article, we call out 17 simple and practical actions to reduce your EMF exposure immediately.  All it takes is making conscious choices on the safer use of the technologies and gadgets that our lives now depend upon. Everything we recommend here is what we do on a regular basis for ourselves and our loved ones.

Reducing EMF Exposure - First Principles

  1. Make the invisible visible.
While ignorance may be bliss at times, it is not so when it comes to EMFs.  Even though most of us don’t see, hear, feel, smell or taste EMFs, our bodies at the cellular level are still incurring damage when exposed to EMFs.
An EMF meter makes the invisible EMFs visible and helps you understand not just the sources of EMFs, but the degree of radiation each source is emitting.  Armed with this, you will be better able to gauge the effectiveness of your avoidance and reduction measures.
  2. Avoid unnecessary exposure to EMFs, especially inside your own home and from your personal devices (cell phone, laptop, tablets), where you have the most control.
  3. For EMFs that you can’t avoid:
    1. Create distance away from the source.
Even a small increase in space between you and your cell phone or laptop makes a huge difference.  Every inch (or cm) of distance counts!
    2. Reduce time of use/exposure.
    3. Protect from Cellular Damage with EMF Harmonizers.

Let us now apply these principles in each of our living spaces.

How to Reduce EMF Exposure at Home

The most important room to keep EMFs as low as possible is the bedroom, as it is when we sleep at night that our bodies regenerate and heal.

Actions You Can Take to Reduce Your EMF Exposure

  1. Keep all electronic devices out of the bedroom.
    1. Keep cell phones outside of the bedroom.
Don’t sleep with it next to you by your bedside table.  If you do bring it into your bedroom to use as your alarm clock, turn on airplane mode and keep it 8 feet away from your bed.
    2. Laptops and tablets should be turned OFF (Shutdown, not in Sleep Mode) at bedtime.
    3. Bluetooth and wearable devices like Airpods, Fitbit.  Take them off at night.
  2. Always switch off your WiFi router before you go to bed.

Even if it is located outside the bedroom.  WiFi routers are so powerful these days, you simply don’t need to be exposed to the EMFs when they are not in use.

  3. Avoid the use of Electric blankets.

These create an electromagnetic field that penetrates ~6-7 inches into the body.

  4. Keep baby monitors at least 6 feet (2 m) away from baby or mother.

Turn them off when not in use.

Research on digital cordless baby monitors shows that monitors placed less than 3.2 foot / 1 meter away from a baby’s crib emit almost the same level of radiation as a cell phone tower 500 foot / 150 meters away.2

How to Reduce EMF Exposure at Work or Home Office

Undoubtedly an area with unavoidable EMFs coming from all sorts of wireless devices including cell phones (your own and others’), laptops (your own and others’), WiFi routers, wireless printer devices, all plugged in being charged electrically.

Actions You Can Take to Reduce Your EMF Exposure

  1. Texting is preferable to taking a call with your mobile phone.
If you have to take a call with your phone, use speaker phone mode and keep it as far away from your body as possible.  Alternatively, use a hollow tube headset.  And keep the call short.
  2. Keep a safe distance between you and your laptop.  Keep the laptop on your desk, not your lap or anywhere touching your body.
  3. Keep a minimum distance of 10 feet (3 m) away from WiFi routers.  If using wireless printers, turn them only when you need to print something.
  4. Keep plugged-in electric cords at least 3 feet (1 m) away from your work space.

How to Reduce EMF Exposure in the Car

Do you spend a lot of time on the road - driving long distances to meet family, friends or clients?  Do you drive an electric vehicle, hybrid, or hybrid plug-in?

Key Sources of EMFs when Driving Your Car

EMFs in a car in motion with brakes applied + ABS activation may well exceed 100 mG.
Adding RF radiation from bluetooth, Wi Fi, the cell phones of the passengers,
the 4G antennas laid out all along the major roads plus the radars of cars already equipped
with, located behind, left or right of a vehicle, the total EMF and EMR fields
will exceed any limits humans can tolerate over a long period of time."
Dr. Theodore P. Metsis, Dipl.Eng., M.Sc.(Eng.), Ph.D.
Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental Engineer

  1. The Car Itself
Modern cars are increasingly equipped with wireless sensors, Bluetooth, WiFi and electric components.
Electric vehicles pose additional EMF exposure risks. In electric vehicles, passengers sit very close to an electric system of significant power, usually for a considerable amount of time. The relatively high currents used in these systems and the short distances between the power devices and the passengers mean that the latter could be exposed to significant levels of EMFs.
  2. 4G macro cell towers along major highways and roads
  3. 5G small cells in residential streets
  4. Radars coming from other cars to the left, right or behind your car
  5. Cell Phones - driver’s and passengers’

Research has now shown that use of a cell phone inside your car can amplify and increase the radiation levels by up to ten times. When inside a metal enclosure such as a car, RF Radiation gets trapped inside the conductive walls, creating what is scientifically called a Faraday cage. Simply put, conductive surroundings act as concentrating reflectors like the cooking cavity of a microwave oven.

So what can you do to reduce your EMF exposure?

  1. Refrain from using your cell phone when in the car.  Use it only for emergency purposes, keeping the usage time short.
  2. Set all cell phones during your commute to Airplane Mode.  Even on Airplane Mode, Google Maps can still be used to provide directions if you have set your destination ahead of time.
  3. Take regular breaks during your commute to turn on your phone and check for messages or take calls.
  4. Specifically designed to protect both driver and passengers, plug in a Somavedic Harmony and take it with you whenever you are on the road.  It will protect you from all the unavoidable EMFs during your commute.

How to Reduce EMF Exposure When Out and About

Sources of EMFs in Urban and City Centres

As true 5G gets deployed in dense, metropolitan urban centres where lots of people gather (stadiums, arenas, convention centers, city centres, airports, college campuses, parks, metro stops) to support faster download speeds, we can expect continued EMF exposure increase in city centres.

Free WiFi in public spaces like shopping malls and restaurants are powered by powerful wireless routers because they are intended to power many smartphones, laptops or tablets simultaneously.

Similarly, public transit trains, buses and airplanes are all WiFi-enabled.  Not only are we zapped by the powerful WiFi router but also by all the active wireless devices that fellow commuters have on them - whether cell phones, laptops or tablets.

If you live in a major city or its suburbs, chances are high that your outdoor spaces could be a huge source of EMFs.  Sharing this anecdote from Dr. Mercola:

It surprised me to find out that my daily beach walks were taking me
past a grove of cell phone towers.  When I investigated further, I discovered
the EMF readings were 1000 times higher on the beach than inside my house!
Now I take a different route where there are fewer cell towers and the
radiation levels test lower.3

Actions to help reduce your EMF exposure

  1. As much as possible, keep your active cell phone away from your body.
Even if not in use, your cell phone is constantly pulsing to receive signals from nearby cell towers.  If you have the device next to your body, that part of your body is getting zapped with every pulse.
  2. Create distance when you encounter high EMF sources.  How do you know when you are near a high EMF source?  We recommend using this super easy-to-useEMF meter (link to EMF Meter Product page) which can be set to beep when it detects a high EMF zone.  As you move away from the source, the beeping subsides.
  3. Last but not least, you can create a protective energy field around yourself to protect your wellbeing at the cellular level with Somavedic.
Somavedic Tiny, Somavedic Portable and Somavedic Pendant are designed to provide personal EMF protection when one is on the go.  Kept next to your body, such as in a pocket, each can create a bubble of coherent, protective energy extending to as much as16.5 ft (5 m).4

Staying Safe in the Wireless Era

The health risks of EMFs are real, yet we want to enjoy the convenience and connectivity that wireless technology brings.  The best way to navigate this fine line is to be very mindful of how we use our technology.

Devices can be turned off when not needed and held away from our bodies when in use.  We can limit the time we keep our cell phones in our pockets.  We can disable our WiFi.  We can use tools to detect EMFs and their sources.  We can use EMF harmonizers like Somavedic to provide added protection and peace of mind.

We have shared practical EMF exposure reduction tips that we ourselves have adopted in our daily lives.  We hope this has raised your awareness and conviction to take protective measures.
